LIGHTWEIGHT BASECOAT - Code: PBLBC
Masons Plastabrick LIGHT WEIGHT BASECOAT plaster is a light weight, fibre reinforced cement based plaster designed to be used as a bonding/levelling coat over a variety of exterior substrates.
Surface Preparation:
Surface must be clean and free of dust, dirt, oils, grease, lichens, mould, chemicals, algae laitance or any other contaminants that may affect adhesion.
All cracking that may be subject to ongoing movement must be repaired and reinforced prior to coating.
Do not apply to wet surfaces.
On smooth, dense concrete surfaces, painted surfaces or other non-porous surfaces, a thin coat of PBMR is required to ensure proper bond alternatively the use of Plastaseal as a primer will achieve higher adhesion. Where releasing (mould release) agents have been used, the surface needs to be chemically cleaned to ensure bond. Very porous surfaces, i.e. Hebel or similar, must be sealed with Plastaseal to ensure cement retention.
Application:
Masons Plastabrick LIGHT WEIGHT BASECOAT Plaster can be pumped or applied by traditional trowel techniques.
PBLBC must be applied to a minimum thickness of 5mm to retain integrity. LIGHTWEIGHT BASECOAT can be applied up to 50mm in any one application, but must be allowed to set before further application.
Fibreglass mesh tape should be used on all stress points. LIGHTWEIGHT BASECOAT can be meshed throughout for additional reinforcement if substrate is dubious.
Coverage:
A 20kg bag LIGHTWEIGHT BASECOAT will cover approximately 7m2 per bag when applied at 5mm thick.
Important:
Do not, under any circumstances, add other materials to product. Always use clean potable water for mixing product. Do not apply product unless substrate is properly prepared.
Product must be applied in temperatures of between 5 C and 35 C, and you must be allowed to at least partly cure before adding any further coats. Do not remix product once it has started to set.
Do not allow product to completely dry out in first 24 hours
Protect all finished surfaces from plaster product.
LIGHTWEIGHT BASECOAT contains irritants and it is advised to use a dust mask or respirator when mixing product or rubbing back, hardened product. Prolonged skin contact should be avoided due to alkaline content of product.
Storage:
Bags of LIGHTWEIGHT BASECOAT must be stored in a dry area, off the floor. Rotate stock to ensure the oldest product is used first.
Plaster stock that is older than six months should be discarded.
Technical:
The combination of special fibres and highly workable light-weight aggregates allows for ease of application, and a higher yield, as it can be applied as a thinner coat. Curing stresses are relieved by the fibre reinforcement.
Provides excellent key for a following coat.
